Bringing to the reality

The dress is nearly finished here. Posing myself at 3 am....tired.....realizing that we suffer for fashion!!))
My friend's mum has brought me the tool to make holes for eyelets....Thanks a lot to Sue and Pauline!
Repeating OVI (OVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVIOVI) I got lovely pattern....then I was thinking to use it as a ribbon and print OVIOVIOVI on it,
but then decided to make an embroidery with black beads and sequins.

The Run Up to NYFDA 2010

Joanne Hynes, one of Ireland’s leading fashion and jewellery designers, has taken on the challenge of mentoring the student finalists in this years coveted Nokia Young Fashion Designer Award.

For the NYFDA 2010, final year fashion and textile students across Ireland were asked to be inspired by Ovi.com, Nokia’s one-stop services portal. Ovi, which means door in Finnish, offered huge scope to the students for inspiration and they were encouraged to use everything from mapping to file and picture share to the Nokia Music Store for their designs. Our judges, who we will reveal later, trawled through almost 100 design note books and drawings to choose their top 20 finalists, who will go forward to create their garments and attend the live final in March.

Of the collaboration with the awards, Joanne said, “I am extremely excited at the opportunity to mentor these young designers. I love hearing their ideas and helping them transition brilliant thoughts into works of art. I am very much looking forward to seeing what [they] come up with. The motivation and creativity of this year’s finalists is exceptionally inspiring”. It sounds as though this years event is going to be yet another fantastic show, I can’t wait to see the designs, let alone the final show pieces.

Maps is part of the Ovi brand of Nokia's Internet based online services. Ovi Maps provides offline maps which have the advantage of not requiring an active data connection or even network coverage on the handset.

Route Travel Planner helps you plan your travels ahead. Keep all important information about flights, hotels and rental cars at hand while you are traveling. You can see where you should be during your trip and you can see Twitter messages about your destination.

Keeping looking through maps, routes and roads what gives me the idea of spiral line.
Handy Weather is ready to make your life easier by providing the most accurate weather forecast service available for your S60 smartphone. All you need is wireless Internet access to get connected to weather forecast for 40,000+ preset cities worldwide. With extended feature set of Handy Weather nothing can be really unexpected for you!

So I put the image of clouds, which remind me about rushing and layering fabric
And I made a sample of rushing the fabric, cutting lots of pieces and sewing them together very close like a bunch, picking all brand colors of OVI
Tight corset with crinoline skirt, the same mini-shape hat and spiral details.
The concept is:
The skirt (shape of it) represents the World (the Universe) , the hat is the mini-version of the skirt - is our OWN little World with our ideas, memories, emotions and knowledges. The spiral means CONNECTION between us and all people all over the World. We SHARE the INFORMATION with people through OVI.

Nokia Fashion Awards 2010

Last month I was invited to do Nokia Fashion Awards 2010 competition.
The first step was to send the portfolio with research , sketches etc to Elevate PR.

All designers had to be inspired by OVI, the new Nokia device.

Ovi by Nokia is the brand for Nokia's Internet services. The Ovi services can be used from a mobile device, computer (through Nokia Ovi Suite) or via the web (Ovi.com). Nokia focuses on five key services areas: Games, Maps, Media, Messaging and Music. Nokia's aim with Ovi is to include 3rd parties, such as operators and third-party services like Yahoo's Flickr photo site. With the announcement of Ovi Maps Player API, Nokia has started to evolve their services into a platform, enabling third-parties to make use of Nokia's Ovi services. It has some significance in that Nokia is moving deeper into the world of Internet services, where head-on competition with Microsoft, Google and Apple is inevitable.

This photo shoot I've done for the web site of the KHAN boutique I work in.

Sometimes we don't devote our attention to the details on the garment hanging around. Color (!) that what definitely brings our attention. But if you only knew how much effort, passion, and love fashion designers had put in their every single work.

They add so much significance and sensuality they talk to us through those details. They tell us long-long charming story which takes our breath away.

So KEEP your EYERS OPEN every day every moment, FOCUS on details surrounding you and only then you will definitely find something unique inspiring you!!!

DESIGN your own NECKLACE

In this post I would like to share with you my few ideas how to make a necklace
using very common stuff which many of you might have at home.
For this one you will need a wire any weight, acrylic paints, pencil or any stick for making spiral bead and thread or ribbon.
It's very easy to make spiral beads and they look really nice on the necklace especially if the wire is very thick.
You can also do double or treble layers of wire for the spiral bead .
Be creative, my young fashion designer, wire is so soft and flexible you can do any shape and any scale bead.
Then using acrylic give a bead the life with a bit of colour. Use double layer of paints for the brightness. Spray it after it dries if u want to add it a bit of shine and gloss.

The next necklace is not so chunky and funky.
It has kind of CHANEL look which is very popular this season.

Materials you need: light fabric (silk, chiffon, light polyester), thread, pearls and a lighter.
Cut three stripes measuring their length you want.
I add an effect of burned fabric wich give the necklace a vintage look. The dark burned edge of stripe looks more interesting on the contrast with off white fabric and pearls.

To make this effect just hold the stripe through the flame using lighter of candle. Do not hold it more then 1-2 seconds otherwise it will burn or melt. It depends on the fabric: Silk - will burn, Polyester - will melt

You may skip this step if you dont like the way it looks kind of dirty.
  • you can leave raw edges in you stripe in this case it will be a bit fluffy.
  • or you can tuck edges under and your plait will look very tiny and knit.
Sew the pearls (or any beads) on the plait. In my version I attache pearls only on the one side of the plate.

The design will be different if you sew pearls all around the plait making kind of spiral all the way around the plait.

It can be lovely present to your friend which will remind about you!
GOOD LUCK!

RECYCLE Fashion Show 2009

Last march I took part in R3 Green Fashion Show which was organized by Stillorgan College of Further Education. The whole idea of the competition was to make a garment or an outfit using only RECYCLE materials.

Few night I spent bending a chicken wire in a fitted corset interlacing with stripes of black and white bin bags. Pity I didn't make a snap shot of the back of the corset. It looked amazing with the ribbon putting through tiny little holes.

I added some accessories to complete the outfit and give it modern edgy look. The glasses were made of wire and crinkle paper, the beads were made of paper mache, gloves - bin bags.

Some words were running on screen during her catwalk:

"The outfit presents women's life which is full of good and bad days, happy or disappointing moments. All this was described by black and white stripes.
Despite of the monotony of her life she still dreams and look at the world through her pink glasses which basically presents the idea of LA VIE EN ROSE"
"TO BIN OR NOT TO BIN" - the question in the model's mind. A little cloud was following her as she was walking.

Unfortunately we didn't win this competition but had a great fun tho.
